Modern Warfare 2 is GameStop’s most pre-ordered game ever

Some may have been up in arms about arguably disturbing material for Modern Warfare 2, but it doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of stifling anticipation for the game. In fact, GameStop told Game Hunters that Infinity Ward’s baby is the most pre-ordered title in the company’s history.  GameStop VP Tony Bartel told the site, “As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we’ve taken for the game is the highest for any title we’ve ever sold in our 6,200 store network.”So feel free to Boycott all you want, but unless Activision replaces …

In an effort to ensure that all things stay equal on the MP side of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the online leaderboards will be reset before the release of the game.
InfinityWard’s Creative Strategist FourZerotwo (Robert Bowling) tweeted saying: “It definitely looks like a full leaderboard / level reset is in order just before the release date to ensure no unfair advantages.”

Activision Responds To Leaked Campaign Footage

Activision has released a statement on the events that take place in the video that found its way to the internet yesterday.
“Yes it is. The scene establishes the depth of evil and the cold bloodedness of a rogue Russian villain and his unit. By establishing that evil, it adds to the urgency of the player’s mission to stop them.“Players have the option of skipping over the scene. At the beginning of the game, there are two ‘checkpoints’ where the player is advised that some people may find an upcoming segment …

Fourzerotwo confirmes Third-Person Camera Viewpoint

Infinity Ward’s community manager Robert Bowling (A.K.A. fourzerotwo) has  confirmed that a third-person camera viewpoint will be available in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but only in specifically marked online playlists.
“It’s not something you can toggle on and off in ANY game,” said Bowling. The special mode can only be played in private matches — toggled on or off just like “Hardcore” settings — or in playlists that are designated for third-person play. According to Bowling, everyone playing in a third-person playlist will be restricted to the viewpoint. “This …

Modern Warfare 2 Will be a Steamworks title

Activision and Infinity Ward have already done a great job of angering PC gamers with their reveal of IWNet. They’ve been trying to patch up the relationship ever since (without much success), and now comes news that I’m pretty sure PC gamers will like, but you never know.
Activision and Valve sent down the grapevine that Modern Warfare 2 will be a Steamworks title. A Steamworks game means that to play the game, you have to have Steam on your computer, and your copy of the game will be tied to …

Fourzerotwo/IW’s Response to PC players Outrage

Via-Fourzerotwo’s blog.

I recently broke news on a PC community member’s podcast that Modern Warfare 2 would be introducing a completely new backend infastructure called IWNET that would allow matchmaking for multiplayer games on PC. The news, by default, means no more browsing through a Server List for a server with the settings / ping you want among other things, and sent shockwaves through the hardcore PC community, leading to many more questions than answers as to ‘HOW’ this would work, and if it would really be better for the …
